Maximizing Your Investment in Supply Chain Technology

We live in a wonderful time for supply chain technology, but your tech tools have to be properly integrated into an overall solution to maximize your returns.

This just in: Technology can’t solve all your problems.

That might seem obvious, but apparently it’s news to a lot of enterprises that bought expensive software that disappointed them. Consulting giant PwC released a survey this month, and that’s the headline insight.

According to PwC, 83% of the supply chain executives they talked with reported that their tech investments haven’t fully delivered the expected results. Among the reasons for their disappointment: undefined project ownership and vision; results aren’t yet available to judge; and inadequate skills and training for their staff.

Despite this, 86% of those polled agree that their company should invest more in supply chain technology to identify, track and measure risk, and 22% say their companies plan to invest at least $5 million in those technologies in the next two years.

Don’t get us wrong. We love technology when it’s properly integrated into an overall solution. In fact, Morgan’s sister company, ChronosCloud, develops the exact kinds of visibility, orchestration, analytics and supply chain finance automation tools that PwC is describing.

It’s just that there has to be an overall solution — something that includes both software and human savvy. At Morgan, we call this combination the Custom Tailored Control Tower

The truth is, we live in a wonderful time for supply chain technology. So, our control tower is built on a foundation of tools to track and coordinate shipments across suppliers as well as monitor critical conditions, when appropriate, with Internet of Things (IoT) sensors. Then, our platform makes sense of it all, analyzing and producing automated actions and insights needed for day-to-day efficiency and continuous improvement.

We don’t stop there, though. The real add-on secret to Morgan’s tech solutions is an expert global operations team and a corps of supply chain optimization engineers. So, there’s less risk that your team isn’t properly trained or doesn’t understand the vision.

Simply put, our vision is to help you run your supply chain at lower cost, higher performance and less risk of interruption. Whether we’re providing the transportation or managing your own vendors, we know how to squeeze more excellence from complex, multi-party, global manufacturing and distribution.

Software plus human savvy. It might not be a groundbreaking new model for the consulting world’s consulting firms. But it’s a formula we’ve been using to produce results for more than 30 years, currently inducing two of Gartner’s Supply Chain Top 25 manufacturing enterprises.
