Case Study: Dedicated Ground Network for A High Tech Client

Morgan analyzed a tech client's data to create a dedicated ground network with faster service with savings and +99% on-time performance.

the challenge

A Fortune 100 business-to-business technology manufacturer with factories and suppliers in the Western U.S. sought a better answer for shipments between these facilities. Prior to Morgan, they were using multiple, overlapping LTL networks to move critical goods between facilities. The “system” worked, but it was less a system and more just a bunch of uncoordinated, individual transactions. Goods were routed to match the carriers’ resources and network, so sometimes they made multiple stops and had complicated routing.

Morgan’s approach

Morgan started, as it always does, with data. They analyzed months’ worth of shipment information, looking for patterns that would lead them to the most efficient, optimized network solution.

Once Morgan understood how the best solution should actually look, the team set about designing that network. The Morgan-owned and managed trucking network was anchored around its own trucks.

Morgan used its own proprietary visibility and analytics platform, ChronosCloud, and transportation management tool, Flex Ship, to unify the whole network. Morgan’s global control tower team used these tools to actively monitor each shipment and identify potential exceptions, so that they could solve problems before they became problems

delivering better: The results of our optimization

The new ground network delivered better results on every measurable metric:

  • The client saved a seven-figure dollar amount on transportation costs alone.
  • Freight got to where it was going faster—in some cases, as much as 20 percent earlier.
  • Because goods moved faster, the clients didn’t have to tie up as much money on goods-in-transit. So, Inventory carrying costs improved.
  • And on-time, exception-free delivery performance rose to more than 99 percent, which is pretty unheard of.

Since the initial engagement, Morgan has used data to continuously improve efficiency. They have also added new types of shipments from the customer to this network, providing even more savings.

Morgan isn't promising a solution to every problem. This engagement reflects a typical methodology and results. But if Morgan can't improve a service, they will be the first to admit it.

At Morgan, the tagline “Seeing better. Delivering better.” really is more than a tagline. It’s a tangible value for the world’s most demanding manufacturing supply chains.
